Perusing Puebla

I’m about to embark on my trip to visit, study, and live in Puebla, Mexico.  I will be studying abroad in Mexico for the next 5 months until December.  I will be taking classes at a local university, living with a local family, and exploring the rich culture that Mexico has to offer.  I will be speaking Spanish 24/7.  ¡Dios Mio!

As I am about to embark on this trip, I feel nerves, jitter, and excitement.  This is the first time I’m traveling alone, the first time I’m living in another country and another language.  What to expect?  Is there really anything I can expect but the unexpected?  As I begin this adventure, I will try to share with you highlights especially food highlights.  I’m not sure how often I will be able to post, hopefully I will be too busy exploring the back streets of Puebla with that cute little pasteleria (bake shop), taking in the wealth of culture and arts, or getting to know new people and friends.  I do have a few posts in the works that I’m working on editing.  So much to write, but I seem to have so little time.  Whatever happens, I hope you continue to follow me and my blog.

Goodbye America… …  bienvenido a México!!!

Update (1/25/12)

I’m back in the United States, and I had a wonderful time in Mexico.  Everything including the Mexican food, culture, students, and my host family were fantastic, although the star of the family was an adorable chihuahua named Tequila (just look at that cute dog).

I’m sorry for all the dog pics.  I never want to be one of those people, but this dog was adorable.

Mexico, as a whole, was very receptive and welcoming of me.  I would do it again in a heartbeat.  I was able to do some baking, whipping up some truly American treats like chocolate chip cookies, whoopie pies, and angel food cakes, but I chose to focus my time on exploring all the new places and culture instead of blogging.  Now, I’m back and ready to do some baking, blogging, and eating.
